We are very excited to welcome the employees and customers of Bornell to the Binkelman Family. We believe the merger of these two independent distributors brings an elevated level of service to our new and existing customers and broader product offering.
This acquisition will bring benefit to our existing customers in the Lima markets and enhance our product offering for all of current customer base. Bornell’s existing customer base will see the continued level of service they have received over so many years along with several new product lines to support and grow. Specifically, Bornell’s customers will see significant investments in inventory levels to support our power transmission, fluid power, electric motor and drive, and conveyor belt and accessory solutions. As a total solution provider, Binkleman will augment Bornell’s capabilities by providing new services and training solutions. BORNELL SUPPLY
Back in 1949, an astute entrepreneur by the name of Von Ellis had a vision. With World War II over, America manufacturing, untouched by the conflict, was redirecting its capacity towards satisfying unprecedented demand for consumer goods. This, in turn, created a strong need for industrial goods, especially those in the power transmission area.
Ellis believed the market in and around Piqua was ripe for a distributor of these products. However, he lacked particular expertise. Since a motor was typically the starting point of all power transmission applications, he sought a partner who knew motors. He learned of an owner of a local electric motor shop known as Electric Motor Service Company and approached him with his ideas. Ralph Bornhorst was the owner’s name. Evidently, Bornhorst liked what Ellis had to say because the two went into business together using “Born” from one name and “Ell” from the other, setting up shop with a staff of three in the Shawnee area of Piqua Ohio on February 24, 1949.
