“Binkelman was chosen as a Continental ELITE Distributor because of their advanced value add, testing capabilities, expertise and commitment to fully servicing the wide variety of industrial hose requirements in their geographic market.” That mouthful came out of Karina Robinson, the Market Director, Industry Hose N.A. of ContiTech USA, Inc.

Karina also noted that “the ELITE status is reserved for a small group of industrial hose distributors through North American who are able to meet a stringent listing of requirements.”

Only 20 of the 250 Continental distributors in North America have earned the right to be labeled Elite. All of us at Binkelman are proud to be on that list.

There’s a 50/50 chance this video about hoses will change your life. It features many members of the Binkelman team.

You don’t buy conveyor belts with pocket change. They represent a serious investment. And they mean everything to the productivity of your operation.

That’s why protecting your conveyor belts is so important. And we can help.

Defender Plus and Monster Hide are two of Continental’s premium cover compounds. They deliver the ultimate belt protection, even in the harshest work environments.

When your belt features one of those Continental cover compounds, your operation costs drop. You’ll spend less money to move each ton of material because you won’t need to commit as much time and manpower to maintenance.

“Conti has a unique advantage in the market because they’re vertically integrated throughout the manufacturing process,” said Binkelman’s Mike Fiedler. “They control the quality, beginning with the R & D of the cover compounds. They own the mixing facilities that provide the raw materials used in the final product. That applies to all the compounds they manufacturer, including abrasion, heat, oil and flame retardant compounds.”

Defender Plus

The Grade 1 rubber used in the Defender Plus cover compound provides very good protection from cutting and gouging, excellent abrasion resistance and flex life.

Use Defender Plus when moving aggregate, cement, sand, gravel, steel, wood and packages. It’s also a good fit for power generation and coal prep plants, hard rock mining and recycling applications.

Monster Hide

Monster Hide can be used to move aggregate and wood products, as well as in hard rock mining.

Known for its ability to take a beating from large rocks, it provides the ultimate in cut and gouge protection.

“Each application should be evaluated to determine which compound will provide the lowest cost-per-ton of material conveyed,” said Fiedler. “The demands on individual belts are different, so it may be necessary to use many different compounds in each plant. The challenge is to make sure that you put the right compound in the right application and do not over or under-belt the individual applications.”

If moving material down a conveyor line is key to your operation’s success, making sure that material moves off your conveyor cleanly is key to your efficiency.

When dust, dirt and even larger particles stick to your belt, carryback accumulates under the conveyor, wastes valuable material and builds up on your return rollers and pulleys. That leads to expensive downtime, maintenance and repairs.

But Binkelman and Continental have a ready-to-install solution: ContiClean.

Unlike other belts with a coating applied only to the top layer, ContiClean’s non-stick properties are baked into the belt. So, even as ContiClean wears, its ability to transport materials cleanly won’t.

Watch the video to the right. The first belt is a 3/375 Plylon Plus Defender Plus cover that’s conveying material to a system utilizing the ContiClean 3/374 Plylon Plus Defender Plus. Notice that material is sticking to the first belt, but not on the ContiClean belt.

“The issue on this system was that the material was sticking to the conveyor belt on both conveyors after the screen,” said Dave Grana, Binkelman’s Vice President of Sales. “That build-up was causing a loss of product. It was being dumped on the ground due to the carry back.”

Dave pointed out the safety issue at that site, and the need to clean up the area at the end of each shift to prevent the pile from reaching the conveyor. “That would’ve caused an entirely new set of problems,” Dave said.

Switching to the ContiClean belt reduced operating costs by eliminating the manpower needed to remove the material under the conveyor and increased production by eliminating the waste caused by the carry back problem.

Binkelman is one of the few suppliers in the area that consistently has ContiClean in stock, and our expert team is ready to install it on your line.

Whether your bread and butter is coal, limestone, sand, gravel, iron ore, aggregate or just about any other material, ContiClean is the non-stick option that stands up to your demanding workload.

When you’re conveying powdery or viscous material, the last thing you want is carryback on the belt. It makes an awful mess along the conveyor line and requires heavy-duty cleanup efforts throughout the course of operation.

We recently worked with a lime processing plant to solve this very problem. The excessive carryback on their lime conveyor line was accumulating beneath the belt and building up on the return rollers and pulleys. The issue not only increased the plant’s housekeeping costs, it also made proper belt tracking difficult and resulted in unscheduled downtime for their operations.

Binkelman’s Dave VanLiere reviewed the line operations and determined that the imported conveyor belt running the line was the source of all the problems. Dave recommended installing a non-stick belt to improve operations, but not just any non-stick belt would do – it needed to be a ContiClean belt.

Other non-stick belts use a coating applied to a standard belt, but the coating wears off quickly and carryback problems return.

ContiClean’s non-stick material is integrated right into the rubber so it maintains its superior material release qualities, even as the belt ages, making this American-made belt ideal for conveying a variety of materials across many industries.

An aggregate customer recently installed a conveyor and began experiencing issues with material carry back.

They were conveying sand and stone from their dredge, which included all sizes of stone mixed with very wet sand. The material carry back was making a mess on the return side of the conveyor – which required a lot of man hours to clean up – and also causing tracking issues with the conveyor belt.

To solve the issue, the customer installed a Flexco MMP Medium-Duty Precleaner and a standard quick-mount spring tensioner. This solution worked well in the short term, but due to the volume of material being conveyed, the blade needed to be adjusted on a weekly basis.

The rigors of conveyance and the location of the cleaner, which required a manlift to re-tension the unit, made it difficult to keep the cleaner blade at the proper tension to get thorough consistent cleaning of the belt.

Binkelman and Flexo representatives made a visit to the customer’s worksite and determined that this was an ideal application for Flexco’s Portable Air Tensioning System (PAT).

Flexco’s PAT system is a belt cleaner tensioning system that uses air or nitrogen to provide constant pressure for premium cleaning. The PAT system uses air springs to tension the cleaner blades and requires minimal maintenance as the blade wears.

Since the worksite was in a remote location without plant air or nitrogen, we also used the PAT air tanks, which allowed us to mount the tanks and control box in an easily accessible location to do the small amount of tensioning that is required.

We were also able to convert their existing spring tension system over to the PAT to help save cost, and we also added a Flexco MHS Heavy-Duty Secondary Belt Cleaner to the PAT system to further increase their cleaning efficiency.

With installation help from Flexco’s Joe Sall and the outstanding performance of the PAT system, the customer’s carry back issues have completely resolved. They were very pleased with their investment and have even asked for our assistance solving some of their other issues.

The Binkelman team recently worked with an industrial chemical company to address a corporate-wide safety issue with their hose fittings.

The company needed a camlock hose fitting with quick attach and release capabilities. These types of fittings are easy enough to come by, however, this company needed fittings that could stand up to rigorous daily use and maintain seal integrity when exposed to aggressive fluids.

Their team evaluated several commonly used camlock fittings from other suppliers that met the material handling requirements, but none offered ease of use for the operators who connect and disconnect these hoses dozens of times daily.

Binkelman introduced them to Continental Contitech’s Insta-Lock Cam and Groove Fittings.

Insta-Lock’s simple design eliminates the need for additional clips, springs and bulky attachments that make traditional camlock fittings too cumbersome for frequent use. Special “palm pads” on the handles make it more comfortable to lock and prevent the pull rings from opening too far, making it easier to uncouple.

Insta-Lock camlocks have locking arms to prevent accidental disconnection caused by vibration, dragging, or wear, so they’re ideal for use in critical applications, such as transferring hazardous materials. They’re also available in multiple sizes and suitable for connecting multiple lengths of hose.

The company’s operators found the Insta-Lock to be the easiest and most functional of any of the camlock’s they evaluated, and Binkelman is now working with the company to outfit all of their hoses with this product.
